There are so many kitchen appliances and gadgets that enhance your culinary experience and make it easier to whip up delicious meals and treats. You can use everything from the Kitchen Aid mixer to the Soda Stream to make all the things you love right at home. The problem is that each of those appliances and gadgets takes up space — some more so than others. The more appliances you have, the less counter space you have to actually do the cooking and preparing.
Fortunately, you have a lot of options to get the space you need, even if you have a small kitchen. You can have your kitchen gadgets and enjoy them, too. Here are a few things you can do to get the kitchen space you need for all those must-have kitchen tools:
Invest in a Kitchen Remodel
Kitchen remodeling is by far the best way to get the space you want in your kitchen. Not only can you get more counter space for everything from food prep to storing kitchen tools, but you can also get more cabinet space and some of the features that you’ve been wanting. For example, you could add an island for easier food prep or for entertaining. You could move the sink to a place that’s more convenient, or you could finally get rid of that weird wasted space you have in the corner.
With the right designer, you can get everything you want in your kitchen. Even if you have a relatively small space to work with, you’d be surprised at what a good designer can make possible.
Add a Cabinet
Maybe you don’t have the budget to invest in a total kitchen remodel (the best option for creating more space). You can still get a bit more space for yourself by adding a cabinet to increase the storage in your kitchen. This option won’t increase the amount of counter space you have, but it will free up counter space by giving you another place to store some of your gadgets.
Of course, you won’t want to put away essential gadgets like your coffee maker or Soda Stream, but you can get away with storing your stand mixer, slow cooker, vacuum sealer, and other gadgets that you don’t use every day. Put these in your upright storage cabinet, and they will be easy to access when you need them (rather than if you had stored them in high cabinets that are hard to reach).
Reduce Other Clutter
Maybe you have more counter space than you realize. You just need to reduce some of the other clutter that is there. Start with that pile of paperwork that seems to add up in every kitchen. Put it away in an appropriate drawer or hang it on a bulletin board. Then move on to items like the
bowl of fruit that can go in the refrigerator or pantry, the utensils that can go in a drawer instead, the canisters that can go in a pantry, or the pile of craft items that can go in a kid’s room.
A lot of items tend to accumulate on counters since they are easily accessible spaces. But that doesn’t mean that all those items need to be on the counter. If you find a more appropriate place for most of those items, you should be able to all but clear off your countertops completely. Then you’ll have all (or most of) the space you need for your essential gadgets.
Investing in a kitchen remodel is the best way to get the design you want for your kitchen so you can have the items you need and the space for food prep and entertaining. But a kitchen remodel is a major investment, and you may not be ready for it. While you are saving for your remodel, you can create more space for yourself by adding a storage cabinet or by reducing the clutter in your kitchen. You may also be able to clear up other cabinet space by getting rid of some of those old dishes or gadgets that you no longer use.
