Appetizer Meatballs in a savory beer barbecue sauce is an excellent holiday appetizer.
Welcome everybody to the November edition of the Crazy Ingredient Challenge!
Well, this one sure was interesting. Each month our group votes on two different polls to select the ingredients for our challenge. When the final ingredients were selected, I was excited… and a bit worried about what I could come up with. This month’s selected ingredients are… wait for it….. Beer and Cornflakes!
Breakfast of champions? Maybe. This combo had me scratching my head big time. I like beer. I like Corn Flakes, but together? That was going to be a mystery dish I was sure.
This time of year, there are so many parties, get-togethers and other family events. It’s when my brain goes into appetizer mode. I’m looking for some amazing ideas to take to all these holiday parties. That’s when I decided a delicious appetizer would work with these two unique ingredients. I love meatball appetizers because there is so much that can be done with them. This time, I decided the Corn Flakes will go into the meatball and the beer into the sauce they cook in.
If you’ve been reading here awhile, you know I cook with alcohol often. It really can add to a dish. I’ve even used vodka in cake! For this dish, I didn’t want to go with a light beer because I didn’t think it would do the meatballs justice. With beef and barbecue sauce in the recipe, a wimpy beer just wouldn’t cut it So I found a nice dark stout beer which I think really enhanced this recipe.
