Caramelized Brussels Sprouts with Onions

Caramelized Brussels Sprouts with Onions

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 Large yellow onion (chopped)
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 4 cups brussels sprouts (stem removed and cut in half)
  • ground black pepper to taste

Optional

  • toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1
In a large deep skillet over medium heat, add the butter and olive oil. Once melted add the onions and turn to medium low, cooking about 10 minutes. Add brown sugar and cook another 5 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.
Step 2
Add the brussels sprouts and season with pepper. Cover and cook for 7-10 minutes over medium low heat. Remove cover and stir. Cook an additional 7-10 minutes. Add onions back in and warm through. Garnish with sesame seeds (optional)
