I went to a martini party a couple of weeks back and what fun that was! Hubby is not much of a martini lover and actually rarely drinks alcohol. This party was more for creative martini mixing and tasting. Some of the samples included The Dirty Girl Scout, Sweet Tart, Pomegrantini, Orange Cremsicle, Meloncholy Baby and more. I can’t begin to tell you how much fun it was trying different drinks and it inspired me to create a Citrus Martini for the fourth of July.
This was the Meloncholy Baby. It contained Barcardi O and Midori with a frozen cantaloupe ball in the middle. Don’t they look yummy?
My favorite by far was the Sweet Tart, pictured above. This one starts with Ruby Red Vodka and pink lemonade topped with a splash of red grapefruit Squirt. My friend lined the rim by dipping it into a mix of simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water) and then dipping the wet glass in two kinds of Fun Dip. She also dropped a couple of sweet tarts in the bottom of the glass for a little surprise. This was so delicious
This motivated me to come up with something for the fourth of July. I basically modified the Sweet Tart mix, but lined the rim of my glass with a mix of strawberry (red) & berry (blue) jello powder. This was my Citrus Martini – all the grapefruit and berry flavors made for a delicious drink. And I couldn’t find any fun dip or sweet tart candy to save my life. I found the gummi kind of the mini sweet tarts, but the traditional? I guess my friend bought every pack in Salt Lake for her Martini night because I went to more then one store with no luck.
The recipe is easy; 1 part vodka to three parts pink lemonade. Shake it in a cocktail shaker with ice to get it nice and cold, then pour it into the jello mix rimmed glasses. Add a splash of red grapefruit squirt and there you have it. A yummy summer time cocktail celebrating our red, white and blue. Make these Citrus Martini drinks for the fourth, Veteran’s Day or any other time you’re feeling patriotic.
