I received this product in exchange for an honest and objective review. All opinions are 100% my own. I only review products that I feel will benefit my family and my readers.
I recently received these two bottles from LEAF Vodka recently for a product review. There are two kinds: LEAF’s Alaskan glacial water vodka (green label) and Rocky Mountain mineral water version (blue label). I don’t drink a lot, but I do like a good bloody mary at brunch when dining out and a vodka cranberry with lime on warm summer days. Since vodka is my liquor of choice, I was excited to give these a try.
About LEAF:
Global Spirits, one of the industry’s leading international vodka producers, will enter the U.S. market by unveiling LEAF Vodka, sourced from unique waters around the country. Two varieties will be introduced in the line—one made from Alaskan Glacial water, which lends a pure, smooth taste with a hint of sweetness. The other, made from Rocky Mountain mineral water, provides richness and complexity, offering a warm and savory impression. The water sources give LEAF Vodkas their signature tastes.
I never thought about the water used in making alcohol, but apparently it really does make a difference. After all, better water makes better coffee and other beverages, right? They are made with the intent of finding the best water available to make the best vodka available.
One thing I noticed right away was how pretty the bottles were. I like pretty bottles so my eye was drawn right to them. When I first tried them, I took a sip of each out of a shot glass just straight up. I don’t normally drink vodka straight, but I felt I could not review this properly unless I did. Both vodkas are smooth and didn’t have that “burn” that you get from vodka. They had a rich taste to them. If I had to say I had a preference, I would pick the Rocky Mountain variety.
Because the warm weather is just around the corner, I thought I would create a couple of cool spring and summer drinks for you. LEAF has lots of cocktail recipe ideas on their website, but these I made up with the stuff I had in the house. This delicious slushy drink was made with the Alaskan vodka. I took 4 ounces of the vodka and blended it with canned peaches and ice for a delicious slushy “snow cone” style cocktail. I added some sugar to the rim and adorned it with a slice of peach. The vodka was delicious in this one and I used the sweeter tasting one since I was adding sugar. I haven’t come up with a name for this one yet.
The next one I made with the Rocky Mountain variety and I call this one my “Rocky Mountain Purple Fizz.” It is 2 ounces of vodka mixed with sparkling water. I then sprinkled a little grape drink mix into it to give it a bit of grape flavor and awesome color. Yes, perfect for sipping on the patio.
Overall, LEAF Vodka gets two thumbs up for me. It’s one of the better vodka’s I’ve tasted and I can’t wait until I can get it in the stores. I’ve never had organic alcohol before and these vodkas have made me a fan.
