Coconut oil has gone in my food and my hair. I have hair that is subject to breakage and I find coconut oil to be a huge benefit in keeping it silky, smooth and with added moisture. Basically, you use it as a hair mask. Take a good amount of it and apply it from scalp to tip of your hair. I let it set there for about a half hour, or the duration of the 3rd quarter of the Falcons – Saints game today. Note; it does drip, so either wear an old t-shirt or use a towel like I did to keep it off your clothes.
Then, I washed and conditioned my hair using my normal shampoo and conditioner. I then blew it dry and voila!! My hair felt so healthy!!! Check out this picture of how silky soft and shiny my hair looks!!
I have no hair spray in, no leave in conditioners… nothing. The soft shiny hair is the result of the coconut oil. Hands down, I love this stuff as a beauty product.
It also makes a great substitution to olive or vegetable oil in recipes. When making an asian dish or some coconut rice, just a little bit of the coconut oil gives it such full flavor. Yesterday, I made a batch of chili and nothing goes better then corn muffins. I was out of milk and was looking for an easy recipe that included coconut oil and maybe almond milk. I found a recipe at Averie Cooks for corn muffins that required my coconut oil and 1 cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Which I had… I had exactly one cup. How lucky was I to find this?
Moist and Delicious Corn Muffins
|Prep time||10 minutes|
|Cook time||17 minutes|
|Total time||27 minutes|
- 1 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 1 cup corn meal
- 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 - 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup regular butter (melted)
- 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- 2 Large eggs
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons TheraVita Coconut oil
- 2 tablespoons fat free plain greek yogurt
- pinch of salt
I think the coconut oil gave the corn muffins a sweeter taste then if I would have used regular vegetable oil. Plus, I felt good about using something a bit more healthy in this recipe. It substitutes very well for the more traditional oils. I plan to make some shrimp later this week and I’m going to sautee it in this oil. ThereVita Paradise Coconut Oil is now a staple in my pantry.
