I sure hope everyone is having a great summer so far with the weather warming up. I’m sure enjoying time by the pool in the evenings and on my days off.
But, that is coming to a swift end soon…. because we’re moving. Yes, you heard that right. Soon, I will have a real kitchen instead of the micro-kitchen I have now. And, by getting a new kitchen, it comes with a house wrapped around it. Isn’t that great?
While doing the happy dance this weekend, I also found time to whip up these slow cooker chicken drummettes that were so good and they just melted in my mouth. It started when I looked at my 1/3 full bottle of Famous Dave’s Apricot Bourbon BBQ sauce and it went from there.
But, moving is not on my top 10 list of things to do and the one thing I dislike moving is my food and condiments. Since the new house is a mile west of where we are now, my food won’t melt in the process. But, between now and then, when the house ready to move in, I plan to use up just about everything I have.
This means being very creative in my adventure in the kitchen and these slow cooker chicken drummettes were my first experiment. I checked out the condiments in my fridge, grabbed a few and came up with something yummy. Recipes for chicken are usually pretty easy.

Just to note: I always use a meat thermometer when cooking chicken, pork and other meats. It’s just something that makes me happy knowing I’ve cooked my food to the desired temp. I HIGHLY recommend the MK4 Thermometer from Thermoworks. It’s rated #1 by Americas Test Kitchen/Cooks Illustrated and it gives you a reading within 2-3 seconds.
After I tasted this little experiment, I knew the family would love them. I made them for a Father’s Day BBQ at my nephews and I will say they were a hit. It’s amazing what you can do with half empty jars of sauce, preserves and honey. The Famous Dave’s sauce was spicy with the hint of apricot so the preserves I added balanced that out.
And cooking so long in that sauce made the chicken literally fall off the bone. That wasn’t a problem with the chicken swimming in a pool of savory deliciousness. Pulled chicken sandwich anyone?

I must try that. Was thinking of getting some chicken legs but was not sure how to do them. This is a great idea.

I’ve never cooked drummies or wings in the slow cooker. I have a weird texture issue with chicken so I am picky about them. I am afraid they won’t be done enough and I wont be able to eat them because of that texture. My wings at home are twice backed and if we do legs and thighs I can only do thighs on the grill , super charred lol Thanks for linking at The Yuck Stops Here

My favorite recipes (well most of them) are crockpot recipes. I just love how little fuss they are, and “easy” is what I look for in a recipe. I can’t wait to try these in my slow cooker. Thanks for sharing at DDT. I’ll be pinning this for later use.
