Easy Baked Bread
Serves | 12 |
Prep time | 40 minutes |
Cook time | 20 minutes |
Total time | 1 hour |
Dietary | Vegetarian |
Meal type | Bread |
Website | We're Far From Normal |
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup warm water
- 1 1/2 tablespoon instant yeast
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 4 cups all purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 cup olive oil
- 1 teaspoon italian seasoning
Directions
Step 1 | |
Preheat your oven to 450 In the bowl of a stand mixer, add the yeast, honey and water. Cover with a towel and allow to sit for about 15 minutes, until nice and bubbly. If it's not bubbly, the yeast is not active.
Step 2 | |
Add flour and salt and mix using a dough hook on speed 2 (or knead by hand) for about 5 minutes or until nice and smooth. On a floured cutting board or counter divide the dough in half and shape into 2 oblong loaves.
Step 3 | |
Slice three to five lines across the top. I like the lines since it gives nice texture to the bread. Cover with a dishtowel and let rise for 20 minutes.
Step 4 | |
Brush the tops of the loaves with olive oil and italian seasoning and place on a baking sheet. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. |

Hot and delicious, this bread was a nice compliment to our pork chops. It was a bit heavy for me, but hubby ate probably 3 pieces during this meal. I smothered mine with honey butter while it was still warm so it was a delicious drippy mess. Trust me, it was amazing.
So the next time you’re in the mood for baked bread, give this recipe a shot. I think it would also be good for the next mornings french toast breakfast. Or top it with tomatoes, balsamic and basil for some yummy bruschetta.
I have lots of trouble with yeast bread. I can’t make it rise. Maybe I can try this one, since it says ‘easy’ in the title.
