Grilled Flank Steak #MIBloggerShowcase

November 18, 2013

Grilled Flank Steak

Hello and Happy Monday everyone!!

Let me tell you about the Mystery Ingredient Blogger Showcase. About a month or so ago I signed up to create a recipe with the mystery ingredient they were going to send out.  What was the mystery ingredient?  Colman’s Mustard, both the powder and the liquid forms.  The rules say we have to use at least one of the products in the recipe, but why not both? Challenge, accepted!  I whipped up two recipes; this grilled flank steak and a stuffed chicken recipe.  After taste testing, Hubby and I decided this one was the the bomb, so I submitted it.  After anxiously waiting on a response, I received an email last night saying I advanced to the final round!!  Oh, happy dance!!  I’m so excited to share this grilled flank steak recipe with you and hopefully you’ll love it as much as we did.  If so, will you please vote for me?

This recipe did use both forms of the mustard beautifully. The powder was used as part of the steak rub and the liquid helped create a delectable steak sauce that even my husband loved. And he HATES steak sauce. SCORE!

Grilled Flank Steak with Mustard Steak Sauce
Serves 4
Prep time 1 hour
Cook time 15 minutes
Total time 1 hour, 15 minutes
Meal type Main Dish
Occasion Barbecue
This grilled flank steak is cooked to perfection with a rub made from ground mustard and other savory seasonings.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon Colman's Old English Ground Mustard
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Weber sweet & tangy BBQ Seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon Mrs. Dash Fiesta Lime seasoning
  • Salt & Pepper to taste
  • 1 1/2lb Beef Flank Steak
  • 3 tablespoons A-1 Steak Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Colsman's Old English Mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Seagrams 7 Whiskey
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon Golden Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic (chopped)

Note

Flank steak can over cook quickly so be sure to keep an eye on it and set a timer.

Directions

Step 1
Mix the first six ingredients in a small bowl. This will be your steak rub
Step 2
Take all the rub, setting aside 1/4 teaspoon of it for the next step, and coat both sides of the flank steak, pressing in to make sure it sticks. Lay the steak on a parchment lined cookie sheet, cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge for an hour. Laying it on the parchment prevents the rub from coming off onto the pan.

Step 3
Take the 1/4 teaspoon of the rub and add it to the next six ingredients and mix in a small bowl. This will be your steak sauce. Cover and place in the fridge for an hour to allow the flavors to blend.
Step 4
When you are ready to grill, heat your barbecue to high heat. Take the steak out of the fridge and let it sit 30 to 45 minutes until it is room temperature before you cook it. This will allow for even cooking all the way through.
Step 5
Grill the steak 4-6 minutes per side depending on how pink you want the middle. 4 minutes each side will make it medium rare, 6 minutes each side will cook it medium to medium well. Let the steak rest for 5 minutes then slice it diagonally across the grain. Drizzle it with the steak sauce or serve the sauce on the side for dipping. Serve with your favorite veggies and/or sauteed mushrooms.

OK, I’m ready for some steak now! This is such a succulent steak recipe and I know you’ll just love it. Colman’s has happily provided a $1.00 coupon so you can try the mustard and make this amazing steak. If you’re a vegetarian, the steak sauce portion of the recipe would be great on pan seared tofu. Just click the graphic below to print your coupon.

If you think you’ll love this recipe (and I know you will), please hope over to the Mystery Ingredient Blogger Showcase and vote for me. The grand prize is a trip for two to London. Hubby and I didn’t get a honeymoon when we got married two years ago and would love to head to Europe. The only part of London I have seen was the outside of the airport from the inside of a plane as we stopped on the way to Munich.  You can vote once per day from November 18 through December 1, 2013.

I have this problem. I really only know how to cook chicken. And recently pork loin. This looks so good and you make me think I could actually make it! Thanks!

I love cooking with mustard – although I’ve never tried it with steak like this. This does sound very tasty and I bet this would be perfect for an easy entree to serve up to guests…

Thanks! It was very easy and I love that flank steak has a short cooking time. More time entertaining and less time in the kitchen. Have a great Thanksgiving.
