Maple Carrots – Your Kids May Start Loving Carrots With This Side

April 14, 2013

Maple Carrots
Looking for an easy fresh carrot recipe? Look no further then right here at these maple carrots. This recipe takes four large carrots, adds the sweetness of maple syrup and makes a perfect side dish for ham or chicken. If your kiddos avoid eating carrots by hiding them or feeding them to the dog, then this may be the recipe for you. The sweet flavor may change their minds for good.

Maple Carrots Ingredients

4 large carrots, peeled and sliced
2 Tablespoons maple syrup
2 Tablespoons honey
1 Tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Splash of whiskey
Directions
Slice the carrots. Then steam them in the microwave on high for 2 minutes, set aside. Be careful when removing them since they will be hot.

In a small saucepan, combine the rest of the ingredients over medium heat until just about boiling.  Reduce heat to low.

Add the carrots and simmer for 5 minutes. You don’t want to over simmer them otherwise they become mushy. I like having a nice crunch to my cooked carrots. If you have little kids, they may like them softer.
Ham Side Dish
See how easy it is to make maple carrots? Simple yet tasty way to serve carrots that even your kids would love. I’d delete the whiskey ingredient if you’re serving this to kids even though the alcohol does cook out of it.  I found this recipe to be suitable for any occasion. If you like, you can also add chopped cooked bacon to the carrots. I think that would be a great addition if you have  bacon lover in your house.
