We all want convenience, right? Not the fast-food type of way, but a quick and healthy meal that’s easy to make and takes 30 minutes. Sounds like a dream doesn’t it? t have never tried a meal delivery service before, however there are weeks where I am running back and forth across town or days when I’ve had such a nightmarish day at work that having a convenient recipe on hand would be awesome. So when the folks at Sun Basket contacted me to say that they would love to have me review their products and their meal delivery service, I readily said yes. And was even happier that I did once I looked at the weekly menu. WOW!
What is Sun Basket Meal Delivery?
Sun Basket works with the best West Coast farmers, ranchers, and fishermen to bring the freshest ingredients directly to your table. They deliver to California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Oregon, Washington and Idaho. The meal delivery service contains three recipes with pre-measured ingredients delivered weekly and you choose whether you want to serve 2, 4 or 6 people. You can choose meal types between chef’s choice, paleo-friendly, gluten-free or vegetarian options. The recipes are created by Executive Chef Justine Kelly, formerly the head chef at the James Beard award-winning restaurant, “The Slanted Door,” in San Francisco. She’s even appeared on Iron Chef!! The recipes are quick and most can be made start to finish in under 30 minutes.
The box the meals are packed in is rock solid. It’s a sturdy box with insulation and ice packs guaranteed to keep your food fresh for 8 hours after delivery. Each meal is in it’s own separate bag with a label and all the contents in the bags are labeled. There are three recipe cards with pictures and step by step directions. You really can’t go wrong.
The meal delivery I received contained three recipes; Grilled Shrimp with Blood Orange-Jicama Salad and Salsa Verde, Baked Eggs with Tomato and a Kale-Pineapple smoothie and Turkey-Apple Sausage with Beat-Apple salad with a Walnut Vinaigrette. The recipes are quick and easy for any level of cook and can be done within 30 minutes, or sooner. The ingredients come pre-measured so no muss, no fuss. Are you hungry yet?
The first recipe I made was the Grilled Shrimp and Jicama Salad. This one was very simple to make and tasted delicious. And I was introduced to a new spice; Sumac. The Blood Orange-Jicama salad was seasoned with it and I was instantly in love. Sumac is a very popular condiment in Turkey and Iran, where the ground fruits are liberally sprinkled over rice. This has a nice citrus flavor, with almost a hint of lemon and was perfect for the salad. I’m adding this to my spice pantry for sure. There was enough for both of us and it was a light, fresh tasting meal.
The second one I made was the Baked Eggs and Smoothie. When I told hubby there was kale in the smoothie, he got that “face” he gets when trying something new. I whipped it up in the blender and he drank it! I thought it was quite good and it was my “breakfast appetizer” for the baked eggs.
And those eggs were so good. It was ready quickly and made for a light breakfast. The recipe comes with four eggs, but hubby likes his yolks fried beyond recognition instead of runny, so I baked the dish with only two eggs.
I finally made the Turkey-Apple Sausage with Apple Beat Salad Sunday night. This one took a bit more time due to peeling the beets, but the effort was well worth it. The crisp salad with the turkey patties was wonderful and the relish topping to the patties was a perfect accompaniment.
All three Sun Basket recipes tasted so fresh and almost had a gourmet quality to them. They should…. look at their chef! This meal delivery service is especially appealing to folks who work all day (like me) and may not have the time to shop, chop, measure to make a delicious meal on their own. Having this service makes it effortless to have a gourmet, fresh, tasty meal without a ton of work. Getting excited to try it?
