Do you go out to pizza restaurants and order a calzone instead? We do, however I find many are over-sauced or just way too greasy. I decided to come up with a recipe for easy homemade calzones that both hubby and I can customize to our own tastes. He likes his much more meaty and saucy and I prefer more veggies and less sauce. Plus I love to have olives on my pizza, in a calzone or just straight out of the can. Hubby dislikes olives so very much!
So since I wanted (no needed) olives in mine, we brought out our favorites and each of use customized our calzone. Here was a recipe that pleased both our taste buds.
Easy Homemade Calzones
|Prep time||15 minutes|
|Cook time||20 minutes|
|Total time||35 minutes|
- 1 Tube refrigerated pizza crust dough (or your own favorite recipe)
- 1 cup Pasta Sauce (Jarred or your own recipe)
- 2oz sliced pepperoni
- 1 bratwurst (cooked and crumbled)
- 4oz Mozzerella Cheese (shredded)
- 1oz black olives (sliced)
- 4 Fresh Mushrooms (sliced)
- 1 clove Garlic (roughly chopped)
You can easily make this a meat lovers version or a vegetarian version. Just pick and choose your own favorites!
Look at that nice golden brown crust!! These cooked up nice and tasty. I used Great Value pizza dough since I enjoy the flavor and the convenience when it’s the middle of the week and I don’t have the time to make my own crust. I find when I’m making pizza, it bakes up the same every time and I’m not disappointed. These homemade calzones were no exception. Again, by only cutting the dough in half, it makes a large calzone so if you’re starving by all means cook up a big calzone. Otherwise, cut it in quarters and pair it with a salad.
